Who can become a member of the WDT?

All vets – whether they are self-employed, employed by a practice or currently not practising.

What membership options are available when there are several practice owners?

Option 1: Every partner becomes a member

Option 2: The practice becomes a member

Is there an age limit for WDT membership?

No. There is no age limit for membership.
Membership is not dependent on employment status and may continue even after retirement.

Acquisition of shares

A (membership) share is fully subscribed once €600 has been paid in.
To become a member, at least one share must be purchased.
The value of one share is €600 and constitutes what is known as the share capital.

The first share for acquiring WDT membership
Your first share requires an initial minimum deposit of€300 (50%).
Once your first share has been fully paid up with€600 , you can purchase further shares.

From the second share onwards
For all further shares, only an initial minimum deposit of€60 (10 per cent) is required.
Here too, you can only purchase further shares once the previously purchased share has been paid in full(€600).

How many shares can be purchased?
You mustpurchase at least 1 share (required for WDT membership) and may purchase a maximum of 33 shares.
This results in a maximum investment amount of€19, 800.

PLEASE NOTE: Until 31 December 2026, the maximum holding has been increased to 166 shares. This gives you a one-off opportunity to increase your investment amount to up to99,600!

Is there a minimum term for the purchase of shares?

No. There is no minimum term for the deposit. The only requirements to be taken into account are the notice periods set out in the Articles of Association.

Everything you need to know about dividends

What is the dividend calculated on?
On the total paid-up capital for each full quarter of the previous year.
For example, if you purchase shares in August 2024, you will receive a pro-rata dividend for the fourth quarter of 2024 in the summer of 2025.

When is the dividend for the previous year paid out?
Once the Representatives’ Meeting has set the dividend in June, the payment is made in July.
Please note: If your most recently acquired share is not yet fully covered bythe €600 , the dividend will be paid into this share until the€600 is reached.

To whom is the dividend paid?
To the shareholder, i.e. either the vet or the practice/clinic

Where is the dividend paid into?
Into the bank account details provided on the application form

The WDT’s Articles of Association and a WDT membership application form with a one-off SEPA direct debit mandate

Termination – What you need to know

How long is the notice period?

  1. 23 months to the end of the year if you are in employment
  2. 3 months to the end of the year if you are receiving a (partial) pension

 

How much will be paid out?

Upon termination, the full amount paid in will be paid out.
